Bessie L. Hacker, 82, of Nicholasville, died Wednesday, June 12, in Lexington. She was the daughter of the late James R. and Kizzie Bishop Hacker. Burial was in the Winchester Cemetery.

HAGER, GARNETT
Garnett “Roadie” Hager, who had been a Nicholasville businessman, died Tuesday at Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington. Mr. Hager, who lived on Clear Creek Pike, was 71. He had owned Jessamine Construction Co., which specialized in railroad construction. He ran H & S Plumbing & Heating Co. from 1950 to 1956, and Jessamine Lumber Yard & Building Co. from 1956 to 1959, when he began Jessamine Construction.

HAGER, MINNIE JANE HARDEN
Mrs. Minnie Jane Hager, (Harden), wife of John Wylie Hager, aged 35, died November 2, 1918, at her home near Pollard, of pneumonia (Spanish Flu). Besides her husband, the deceased is survived by two daughters, Julia and Jennie and four sons, Charles, Woodrow,and Edgar. Burial took place at Scotts Fork (Christian Ch) cemetery in Garrard Co. on Tuesday.

HAGER, RUBY BRUMFIELD
Mrs. Ruby Brumfield Hager, of Cox’s Creek Route 1, Nelson County, formerly of Nicholasville, was killed instantly Friday, Feb. 23 (1962) when the car she was driving collided with a truck on US 31-E six miles north of Bardstown. Mrs. Hager was a native of Jessamine County, the daughter of Mrs. Sarah Sanders Brumfield, and the late Buford Brumfield. Besides her husband (Buford Hager) and mother, she is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Bill Breeding, of Versailles and Mrs. Douglas Brown, of Danville; five sisters, Mrs. Otho Walker, Mrs. Bill Shawler and Mrs. Elwood Owens, all of Jessamine County; Mrs. Lovie Craig, of Lexington and Mrs. Bill Ray Glass, of Georgetown; three brothers, Fire Chief Walter Brumfield, Nicholasville; Meredith Brumfield, Oakle Brumfield of Erlandger, and two grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Bardstown Christian Church. Burial was in the Bardstown Cemetery. The body was at the Mann, Greenwell and Arnold Funeral Home until time for the services.

Lou Frances Hale, 82, died Nov. 10, 2000 at St. Joseph Hospital. A native of Jessamine Co., she was the daughter of the late Fred and Irene Hale. She was a member of the Marble Creek Baptist Church. She is survived by 7 nephews; 11 nieces, including a special niece Emma Burch; Sisters in law, Delia Hale; several great nieces and nephew and other family members. Funeral services were held at Marble Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. EB Raglin officiating. Burial followed Newman Road Cemetery, Jessamine Co.

HALL, MARTHA
Martha “Rusty” Hall, 63, of Nicholasville, died Tues. Sept 5, 2000, after a long illness. She worked at Parkettee Drive In for over 20 years and was a member of Ashland Ave. Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Harry Hall of Nicholasville; 2 daughters Sheryl Ivey of Nicholasville and Terry Redmon of Lawrenceburg; 2 sons Mike and Steve Rust, both of Lexington; 17 grandchildern, 21 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 1 pm on Friday at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home in Lexington with the Rev. Al Owens officiating. Burial followed in Lexington Cemetery. Pallbearers were Thomas Redmon, Tobert Whitaker, Steve Rust, Steve Ray Tust, Jason Rust, Brad Lindsay. Honorary pallbearers were Bruce Rust and Chris Lykins. HALL, WILLIAM BEAUFORD
The Rev. William Beauford Hall, former pastor of East Maple Street Christian Church in Nicholasville, and a former North Middletown vice mayor, died Monday at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington after a short illness. He was 88. Mr. Hall was pastor of the church for about 13 years, beginning in the early 1970s.

HAMMERSTONE, THOMAS R.
Thomas R. Hammerstone, a former aluminum company executive who helped build a small Nicholasville railroad company into a $70 million-a-year business, died yesterday. He was 52. Mr. Hammerstone, president of R.J. Corman Railroad Cos., collapsed while running at the Lexington Athletic Club. His death came as a shock to colleagues because Mr. Hammerstone was a fitness buff and an avid runner.

HAMPTON, ELIZABETH JANE
Wednesday morning, August 4, 1915, Mrs. Elizabeth Jane Hampton, aged 91 years, widow of Samuel T. Hampton, passed away at her country home on the Shyrock’s Ferry pike near Versailles. She is survived by one child, Mrs. Maggie J. George. The deceased was born in this county and was a daughter of Jesse Dixon and Hester Cleveland. On April 28, 1851, she was married to the late Samuel T. Hampton, a native of Jessamine County, but who removed to Woodford County two years before his marriage. All of the remainder of Mrs. Hampton’s life was spent in Woodford County. Five children were born to this union; Wade, Maggie J., Mary N., Bettie D. and Isola. All of them preceded their mother to the grave except Mrs. Maggie George. Funeral services will be held at the residence this (Friday) morning at 10 o’clock. Interment in Versailles cemetery.

HAMPTON, MYRTLE HOUP MORGAN
Myrtle Houp Morgan Hampton, 88, of Wilmore, died June 4, 2002. She was born in Jessamine County on Feb. 22, 1914, one of nine children born to the late Guy D. and Mamie Long Houp. She is survived by one daughter, Sheila Morgan Klingshirn and one brother, Dick Houp. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Elmer Ray Morgan and by her second husband, Homer Hampton. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Mary and Ada; and five brothers, Guy Jr, Edmund “Buddy”, Ben, J. T. and her twin brother, Stanley. Burial was in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens.

HAMPTON, SAMUEL T.
Samuel T. Hampton died on Saturday, Mar. 20, 1914, at 2 o’clock at his home near Versailles. He had been sick only a few days, and his condition did not become serious apparently until Friday. Although in his 88th year, Mr. Hampton was quite active. His death was due to blood poison. The deceased was born June 5, 1826, in Jessamine County, and was a son of Andrew and Mary (Hayden) Hampton. Andrew Hampton was a member of the South Carolina Hampton family and a first cousin of Wade Hampton, the distinguished United States Senator and Confederate General. The subject of this sketch moved to Woodford County in 1849. Until the civil war, he was engaged in the manufacture of hemp, but afterwards devoted himself exclusively to farming. Had Mr. Hampton lived until April 29th, he and his wife would have celebrated their sixty-fourth wedding anniversary. He was married in 1850 to Miss Belle Dixon, of Jessamine. Besides his wife, Mr. Hampton is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Maggie George, by a number of grand-children, by two half brothers, Robert and Cleveland Hampton, of Jessamine, and two half sisters, Mrs. Mattie Knight of Lexington, and Mrs. Lida Singleton, of Indiana. Mr. Hampton was one of the prominent farmers in Woodford County and a man of fine business ability. He was possessed of the strictest integrity. “His word was as good as his bond,” his convictions were strong and his principles high. He was a devoted husband and father, a man of warm, kindly nature, and excellent citizen and his death is universally regretted. The funeral was held Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock by Rev. O.O. Green, pastor of the Baptist church and the interment took place in the Versailles cemetery. The pallbearers were Mr. Hampton’s six grandsons, Messers. Sam Henton, Wade Henton, Dudley Henton, W. HANLY, LAURA
Hanly - The funeral services of Miss Laura Hanly aged 68 years, who died at a Lexington hospital Saturday evening (June 1933), were held in Maple Grove cemetery Monday morning at 10 o’clock, conducted by Rev. R. L. Badgett, pastor of the Christian Church. Miss Hanly was a native of Jessamine county, a daughter of the late Major Grattan Hanly, a pioneer settler of Jesamine county and for whom the village of Hanly, in the sourthern part of the county was named. Her nearest surviving relative is Mrs. William G. Wood. The pall bearers were: L. Saunders, W. R. Smith, D. P. Hemphill, William G. Wood, Harry McCarty, O. Y Hudson.

HARRIS, WILLIAM P.
William P. Harris who died very suddenly at his home near Ambrose, Sunday afternoon (April 4, 1904), was one of Jessamine’s oldest and most honored citizens. He was born near Glass’ Mill, in Jessamine County, September 21, 1821, and had he lived until next September would have been 83 years old. Four children survive him, W.D., H.G., Miss Maggie J. and Mrs. John Brumfield, all of this county. One brother survives the deceased, Henry Harris, who is located in Pettus County, MO. Mr. Harris had been complaining for over a year and while he had been going about, was very feeble. Sunday morning he was found near the house in an unconscious condition, where he had gone a short time before dying in the afternoon. As a citizen, husband, father and neighbor, Mr. Harris met all the requirements, and the community in which he lived, will greatly miss him. The funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at 1 o’clock from the late residence by Rev. T. R. Stratton, of the Methodist Church, of which denomination the deceased had long been a faithful member. A large concourse of friends followed the remains to his last resting place in the old family burying grounds.

HARVEY, GENEVA DEAN

Geneva Dean Harvey, 93, of Elmwood, Nicholasville, died at Central Baptist Hospital Tues., April 15. She was the widow of Ottis Harvey who died in 1972. A native of Jessamine County, she was born on September 30, 1909, to the late Harvey and Elva Kemp Dean. Mrs Harvey worked at Heathman’s Grocery for over 17 years and had been a member of Wesley Methodist Chapel for many years but had attended Tabernacle Baptist Church for the last several years. Survivors include one son, Woodrow Harvey of Nicholasville; five grandchildren, Kimberly Harvey, Dianna Huckelberry, Scott Harvey, Allen Dean Harvey and Woodrow “Butch” Harvey Jr.; 10 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, J.C. Harvey who died in 1993, 6 brothers, Floyd Wilson, Carl Vernon, Harrison, James Harvey and Craig Dean; four sisters, Buanna Roberts, Edna S. Blakeman, Mattie Ann Roberts and Lillian Hunt. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 18 at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home on Oak St., with Rev Lonnie Moore officiating. Burial in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Daniel Stocker, Larry Roberts, Charles David Dean, Woodrow “Butch” Harvey, Jr., Scott Harvey and Allen Dean Harvey. Visitation will be from 5 - 8p.m. on Thursday, APril 17 at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the Diabetes Foundation.

Otis Harvey, 65, 133 Cypress Street, Nicholasville, died Wednesday, August 2 (1972), at Central Baptist Hospital, Lexington, after a long illness. He was a retired employee of Almahurst Farm and a member of the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Mrs Geneva Dean Harvey; two sons, J.C. Harvey of Indianapolis, Indiana and Woodrow Harvey of Richmond, Indiana; two sisters, Mrs Clayton Hager of Jessamine County and Mrs John D. Shanks, Lexington; four brothers, Holman and Sanford Harvey, Jessamine county; Morris and O.B. Harvey, Nicholasville; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Betts and West Funeral Home by the Rev. David Warner. Burial was in the Blue Grass Memorial Gardens, Jessamine county. Active bearers were Earl Vickers, Buford Teater, Delos Blakeman, Frank Teater, Edward Perkins and Clark Overstreet. Honorary bearers were nephews.

HATTON, ELMER D.
Elmer D. Hatton, 63, of 908 Dayton Avenue, Lexington, died Friday, March 31, (1967) at his home after a long illness. He was born in Estill County, and was a son of the late Merrill and Margaret Ann Marcum Hatton. He was a retired railroad employee of the L & N Railroad and a member of the Christian Church. HAWKINS, FRANCES LOUISE KNOX
Frances Louise Knox Hawkins, 73, died Saturday Oct 26, 2000 from respiratory disease at Maple Knoll Village Nursing Home in Cincinnati. A native of Wilmore, Mrs. Hawkins was a retired LPN at the VA Hospital in Lexington. She attended public schools in Jessamine County and was a graduate of Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing in Lexington. She was employed at Good Sam for more than 15 years. While employed at VA Hospital, she received two Superior Performance awards in recognition of outstanding performance in the care of her patients, among other accolades. She retired from VA after 20 years of service. She enjoyed the fine arts and traveling, nationally and internationally. After retirement, she worked part time as a relief nurse at the Christan Love Center and was a volunteer for several years at Gods Pantry. She joined Cedar Top Baptist Church in Wilmore at an early age. Prior to her illness, she was active in the churchs Sunday school, choir and the Progessive Club. She is survived by her daughter and son in law, Teresa and Eddie Jones of Cincinnati; a sister, Margaret Frier; a brother and sister in law James A. and Mary Ogle Knox, Sr., all of Louisville; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; three nephews; one great nephew; two nieces and a host of cousins. Her daughter Deborah Hawkins Burrell preceded her in death in July 1993. A memorial service and burial will be held on Thursday, Nov 2, at Blue Grass Memorial Gardens Chapel. The Rev. William Donald Crutcher, family friend and pastor of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church in Lexington, will perform the eulogy. Arrangements were made by Smith and Smith Funeral Home in Lexington.

HAWKINS, ROBERT
Robert, aged twenty-five years, son of Mr. Jas. W. Hawkins, who formerly lived at Russell’s Cross Roads in this county, died at the home of his parents in Scott County. The young man contracted a cold from going in bathing last summer, resulting in consumption. (3-8-1901 issue)

HAYDON, MARY WILSON
Mrs. Mary Wilson Haydon, wife of J.W. Haydon, of Bowling Green, died at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. S. Wilson, No. 246 South Spring Street, Lexington, Wednesday morning, June 10th, 1903, of consumption, aged 29. The deceased had been in ill health for several months. Besides a devoted husband, four little children, loving father and mother, she leaves two brothers and a sister; Jas. D. Wilson, of Lexington and Ben Wilson and Mrs. Geo. E. Cleveland, of Keene, this county. Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon, Rev. Preston Blake officiating, after which the remains were interred in Lexington cemetery.

G. P. Hayes, 74 of Hickory Hill in Nicholasville, the husband of Alberta L. Hayes for 56 years, died Dec 18, 2000. The son of the late Bob and Mabel Bush Hayes. He is survived by 13 children: Wanda Maxie of Horse Cave, Winifred Hayes of Glasgow, Hailia Curry of Horse Cave, Sheila Mason of Nicholasville, George P. Hayes, Jr. of Calif., Robert Hayes of Nicholasville, Michael Hayes of Lawrenceburg, Dean Hayes, William Hayes and Thecala of Lexington, Therria Hayes of Ala., Lee Treenaine Hayes and William Subblett of NC; 21 Grandchildren: 9 Great Grandchildren; 5 step children; 2 brothers and their wives, Roscoe and Dorothy Wilson, Charles and Dorothy Jean Alexander; 2 sisters, Mattie and Leo Austin and Edna Curry; numerous nieces and nephews. The many Nicholasville friends of Fred J. Heintz, the Lexington jeweler, sympathizes with him in the loss of his mother, whose death occurred in Cincinnati, Thursday, March 6, 1903.

HENTON, SAMUEL H.
On Monday, a private telegram, received by James Henton, of Versailles, announced that his son, Sergeant Samuel H. Henton, had died on Saturday, in France and that letter would follow. The young man was the grandson of Mrs. Geo. C. Scott, of Nicholasville. Samuel Henton was born in Woodford County on July 30th, 1887. In 1908, he entered the bank of J. Anisten & Co., of Versailles, where he remained until September last, when he was called into service and went to Camp Zachary Taylor, Louisville, Ky. Mr. Henton was married in February, 1916, to Miss Kinkead Worthington, of Versailles, who survives him. Mr. Henton purchased a home on Camden Avenue, where he and his bride went to housekeeping. After he was called to the service, Mrs. Henton went to live with her mother, Mrs. S. M. Worthington, on Elm Street. (no date of death included in obit)

HERSBERGER, MRS. MATTIE
Hersperger - Mrs. Mattie Hersperger, who was born and reared in Jessamine County, and a sister of Mrs. Wm. H. Hoover, died April 13, (1905) at the home of her son, J. Clay Hersperger, near Handy, Ark., of acute indigestion. She was a quiet, modest christian woman who was well known and beloved by all the citizens in the southern end of the county, near her old home. Had she lived until June 1 she would have been 76 years of age. She was buried in the Handy Cemetery.

Collie Ashley Hicks, 91, the widow of Gilbert Hicks, of Royal Manor Nursing Home, died Monday Sept. 18, 2000 at the nursing home after a lengthy illness. She was the daughter of the late Mr. And Mrs. CT Ashley. She was a member of the Nicholasville Christian Church and attended Georgetown College. She is survived by nieces and nephews, TJ and Ethel Carrington, Mr. And Mrs. Frank Ashley Moss, Charles and Cathe Conn; and numerous other great and great great nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her son Joe Hicks. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Friday at Maple Grove, with the Rev. Bob Mallory officiating. Arrangements were made by Betts and West Funeral Home.

HIFNER, MARGARET
Mrs. Margaret Hifner, aged 88, and a native of Jessamine County, died the 13th inst, 1896, at the home of her son, Wm. A. Hifner, near Nicholasville. One brother, Michael Funk, Bellefontiane, Oh., and three sons, John L. and G. W., of Jackson County, Mo., W.A. Hifner, Jessamine, survive the deceased. She was an aunt of Mr. Morton Funk, Mrs. Lucy Duncan and Mrs. Wm. Vince, this county. Services were held at the residence Tuesday morning by Elder V.W. Dorris. The remains were taken to Lexington for burial.

HIFNER, MRS. W. A.
Mrs. W. A. Hifner, aged 72 years, died at the home of her son-in-law, A. D. Woods, in Frankfort, Monday, Jan. 22, 1912, of cancer. The deceased was the mother of Mrs. George O’Neal of near Russell Cross Road, Mrs. A. D. Woods, of Frankfort; Mrs. W. C. Gregson, W. A. and H. L. Hifner, of Lexington, and is also survived by her husband. The remains were taken to Lexington for burial Thursday.

HILL, J. J.
J. J. Hill, who was, for a number of years, engaged in the grocery business in Nicholasville, died Friday, Dec. 11, 1914, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Aaron Stocker, at Baldwin, Madison County, of cancer. Funeral was conducted by Rev. George Peel on Saturday, followed by interment in family burying ground. He is survived by his wife, two sons, Ashford Hill, of Little Hickman, and Newton Hill, of Madison County, and two daughters, Mrs. Mary Ellen Sanders, of Fayette County, and Mrs. Marion Stocker, of Madison.

HILL, WILLIAM WILSON
Died at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. R. M. Burch, on the 18th inst. (12-18-1896 issue), Mr. William Wilson Hill, aged 78 years, one of Jessamine’s oldest and most honored citizens. The deceased was born in this county, October 20, 1818, in the Brannon neighborhood and has lived here all his life. Mr. Hill had only been sick a week, being taken with la grippe which resulted in pneumonia. Mr. Hill leaves one daughter, Mrs. R. M. Burch, with whom he has made his home for many years and one brother and sister, Mrs. M. C. Smith, of Nicholasville and G. B. Hill, who lives somewhere in the west. The funeral took place from the residence of Mr. R. M. Burch, Tuesday afternoon at two o’clock, conducted by Rev. T. W. Watts, of the Methodist church, of which denomination Mr. Hill had been a member for sixty-five years. Interment took place at Maple Grove Cemetery.

HISLE, MRS. LULU WEST
Mrs. Lulu West Hisle, wife of Chas. Hisle, of Union Mills, died Wednesday, Mar. 6, 1901, of consumption and was buried in Maple Grove Cemetery Thursday afternoon. Funeral services were conducted at the grave by Rev. E. G. B. Mann. Mrs. Hisle was aged about twenty-five years, daughter of Mr. Mike West, and leaves a husband and five-month old baby. She was a bright, popular christian woman. The mourning ones have the sympathy of many kind friends.

HOGAN, ALEXANDER
The body of Alexander Hogan, a well known citizen of the Jack’s Creek neighborhood, was found Sunday, June 11, 1904, in the Kentucky River at the Jack’s Creek ferry. Death had resulted from drowning and the man had without doubt committed suicide. Friends and relatives had discovered Hogan’s clothes on the bank, and upon further search made the grewsome discovery of his body floating near the bank. Mr. Hogan, about a year ago had an altercation with Will Baxter which lead to shooting. Hogan was wounded in the spine and never was himself afterwards. He became subject to spells during which he possessed the suicidal idea. While undergoiong treatment at a hospital in Lexington several months ago, he devised a halter out of the bed clothes and had made all arrangements to hang himself. He was found by a nurse, however, in time and cut down. He remained at the hospital for some time, and his life, for a considerable period, was despaired of. He finally seemed to improve and was sent home. The tragedy Sunday is believed to have followed a recurrence of his suicide mania. Mr. Hogan was 60 years of age and a man of a family. The remains were borne to his home, from whence the funeral was held Tuesday morning. His family have the deepest sympathy of a host of friends and the entire community in which they reside.

HOGAN, ELIZABETH F.
“Elizabeth F. Hogan was born at Little Hickman, Jessamine County, Kentucky, on April 9, 1837 where she spent her childhood. She was married in Lexington, Ky., to Charles H. Hogan on March 21, 1861. To this union six children were born, three of whom preceded her to the home beyond. There are living Elmer T., James E. and W. C., three sons, all of whom were at her bedside when she passed away.
Her great grandfather, James Irvine, was a soldier in the Revolutionary war. Her grandfather, William Hogan served in the war of 1812. Her uncle Abner Hogan was in the Mexican war, and her husband was wounded in the Civil war at the battle of Chicamauga. They lived in Wilmington, Ohio, for a short period following the Civil war, at which place Mr. Hogan served as Register of Deeds. From Wilmington they moved to Ft. Scott, Kansas, in 1865, thence to Parsons, Kansas, in 1875, and from there to this city [Independence, Kansas] in 1876, coming overland, and has resided in this city ever since. Mr. Hogan served a term as probate judge in this county in 1888, and held other public offices of trust, and was commander of the G. A. R. for several terms. Mr. Hogan passed to the Great Beyond on January 23, 1906. Mrs. Hogan's late sickness began last June and culminated in her death on Thursday October 10, at 7:10 p. m.
Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. J. W. Ferrell, her second cousin, and a lifetime friend, at her residence at 521 South Eleventh street, this city, at 10:00 a. m. today, and was largely attended by relatives and friends. She was laid to rest in Mt. Hope cemetery by the side of her husband. Mrs. Hogan was a good Christian woman, a good wife, mother and neighbor, and she will still live in the lives of others.”

HOGAN, WILLIAM H.
William H. Hogan, who died at the local asylum Sunday, was buried Tuesday afternoon. It was learned Tuesday that only a few days ago he fell heir to about $3,000 left him by his aunt, Mrs. Margaret Price, who recently died at Richmond, Ky. Hogan was a courier to Gen. John H. Morgan and came originally from Jessamine County. A former wife, Mrs. Mattie Hogan, living at 629 North Upper Street, this city, survives him and she, it is said, will institute legal proceedings to procure the property left her husband.

Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Hollis, consort of Berry Hollis, of Jessamine County. Died March 5, 1847, aged 24 years.

HOOVER, MRS. MARY C.
After a long and patient illness of palsy, Mrs. Mary C. Hoover, wife of Thos. A. Hoover, died Thursday morning, May ?, 1909, at her home near Wilmore at 6 o’clock, in her 73rd year. The funeral services will be conducted at the late residence this (Friday) afternoon at 1 o’clock and the interment will follow at 2 o’clock p.m. in Maple Grove cemetery, Nicholasville. Deceased was a well known, popular and estimable Christian woman, who was, all her life, an active worker in the Christian church. She was a sister of Milton C. Smith, of Nicholasville, the last survivor of the family of five brothers and two sisters. The deceased was Mary Catherine Smith, and she was born August 20, 1836, near where she spent her life and where she died. She is survived by her husband, Thos. A. Hoover and daughter, Mrs. Kinzea Stone, of Georgetown. The funeral will be conducted by Elder W. S. Irvin of the Nicholasville Christian church.

Henry M. Horine, a native of Jessamine County, for several years a resident of Lexington. Died Saturday, January 10, 1846, aged 24 years. Buried in Jessamine County Sunday, January 11, 1846.

HOUSE, ALVIN RAY, JR.
Alvin Ray House, Jr. 71, of Bethel Pike, Nicholasville, died unexpectedly Dec 25, 2000 at Central Baptist Hospital. He was a native of Jessamine Co. and the son of the late Alvin R. and Kate Perkins House. Mr. House was an Army vet and a life long farmer and landowner. He attended the Methodist Church. In additon to his wife Sylvia Burton House, he is survived by a son Donald House and his wife Jenny; a daughter Christie House Guy and her husband Bobby; 2 sisters, Mary Ruth Friend of Jessamine Co., and Neva Bailey of Lexington; one brother Wendell Holmes House of Lexington; four grandchildren, Robert Christopher Guy, Crystal Ivey and her husband Bobby, Stacey House Cochran and her husband Ray, Jessica Nicole House; 3 great grandchildren, Christopher Ray Cochran, Joseph Paul Ivey and McKenzie Ann Ivey. Funeral services were held Dec 28 at Hager and Cundiff Funeral Home with Dr. CR Hager and Dr. Gayle Toole officiating. Burial followed at Camp Nelson Cemetery. Bearers were grandsons in law and nephews. Honorary Bearers were Bruce Davis, Charles Overstreet, Harold Burton, John Guffie, Jeff Woodward, Jim Ed Shearer, Harrison McMillen, Nullan Wallace Burton, Bill Reed.

HOWARD, JOHN D.
John D. Howard, aged 61 years, who lived in Woodford County, died at the Lexington Hospital, Tuesday, Jan. 23, 1912, after an illness of several months, of paresis. He is survived by four brothers and three sisters. The funeral services were held at the late residence.

HOWARD, JOHN W.
John W. Howard, aged 32, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. David V. Howard, died at the Woodford Memorial Hospital, Versailles, Friday, Feb. 4, 1910, after a week's illness from pneumonia, having been removed to the hospital on Tuesday from his home on the Military Pike in Woodford County. A wife, formerly Miss Nina McCaw, of Woodford County, and two small children, Pauline and John Howard, Jr., survive. Also two sisters, Mrs. J. W. Collins and Mrs. Robert Baker, and brothers, Chilton Howard and David Howard Jr.

HOWARD, ROBERT S.
A Leroy, Illinois paper of recent date contains a notice of the death, in that city, of Robt. S. Howard, aged 75. The deceased was a native of Madison County. He was engaged in business in Jessamine for ten years, and was related to the Sageser family. He was a Mexican War veteran, an ardent Prohibitionist, and a Mason of some prominence. A wife survives the deceased.

HUFF, MARGARET ISON
Margaret Ison Huff, 75, the wife of Willie Huff of Hartley Dr., Nicholasville, died Dec 5, 2000 at her home after a long illness. She was a homemaker and a member of the Leatherood Baptist Church. Born in Cornettsville, Ky, she was the daughter of Lige and Mary Logan Ison. She is survived by her husband, children: Bonnie Campbell, Mary Jane Hurley, Dennie Huff, Jimmie Huff, Tim Huff, Kyna Cunningham all of Nicholasville; a brother Bee Ison of Cornettsville, Ky. 14 Grandchildren; 13 Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by son Ricky. Funeral services were held at Betts and West with the Rev. Ron Riley officiating. Burial followed at Maple Grove Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Jessamine Co. Hospice.

HUGGINS, EMILY
After an illness of only two weeks, Mrs. Emily Huggins, widow of the late Oliver B. Huggins, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. C. Graves, near Pinckard, yesterday, July 26, 1894, of heart trouble, aged 64 years. For some time past, Mrs. Huggins has been boarding with her sister-in-law, Mrs. Sallie D. Coffman, of this place, but was visiting her daughter when taken ill. The deceased was the mother of Mrs. J. C. Graves, of Pinckard, Mrs. Joe D. Graves, Calwood, Mo., Mrs. W. N. Elliott and Messrs. Jno C. and Harvey Huggins of this county. Mrs. Huggins was a daughter of David Coffman, dec’d, and was born at the old Coffman homestead, near Brannon. Her brother and sisters, who survive her are: Mr. S. D. Coffman, Mrs. Sue McCrohan, this county; Mrs. Mat Tucker, Harrodsburg; Mrs. Sam Elmore, Versailles; Mrs. Kitty Morrison and Mrs. Polly Blugtenfeller, Missouri. Funeral will take place from the Christian church at South Elkhorn tomorrow, (Saturday), at 1 p.m., Elder V. W. Donis officiating. Interment at Lexington cemetery.

HUGGINS, SARAH WAKE
Mrs. Sarah Wake Huggins died at her home on Broadway in Nicholasville, Thursday morning, Oct. 5, 1896, after an illness of several weeks, due to general disability. The deceased was a member of one of Jessamine’s oldest and most honored families, her father, Judge Alexander Wake, filling the office of judge of this county at one time. Mrs. Huggins was born in the house where Mrs. Mollie Saunders lives, May 26, 1824. She was married to W. H. Huggins, Sept. 8, 1844, three living children surviving her, Mrs. Wade Soper, of Jackson, Ky; A. W. and Miss Maggie Huggins. Mrs. Huggins was a lady of a very quiet disposition and, of remarkable patience. During her illness, the two daughters, as well as friends, were most faithful in looking after every detail that would add to the comfort of the devoted mother and friend. The funeral services will be conducted from the M. E. Church, South, this (Friday) afternoon at 3 o’clock, conducted by Dr. W. F. Taylor. Interment at Maple Grove Cemetery.

HUGHES, BESSIE LOWRY
Mrs. Bessie Lowry Hughes, 62, wife of George Hughes, RFD 4 Lancaster, died Sunday, July 20, (1975) at the Garrard County Hospital in Lancaster. She was a native of Jessamine County and was a daughter of the late Lidge and Josie Gill Lowry, and attended the Christian Church. Besides her husband, she is survived by one son, Andy Mastin, Nicholasville, one sister, Mrs. Katherine Duncil, one brother, Virgil Lowry, all of Nicholasville; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Betts and West Funeral Home by Rev. John C. Keyton and Arthur Murphy. Burial was in the Maple Grove Cemetery. Bearers were Henry and Russell Hughes, Bob Bryant, Billy Baker, Billy Wayne and Andy Eugene Mastin.

HUMPHREY, LESTER B.
Lester B. Humphrey, 68, husband of Edna Murphy Humphrey, died Nov. 18, 2000 at St. Joseph Hospital after a long illness. The son of the late William and Stella Alridge Humprey, he was retired from the Jessamine Co. Road Dept. and a deacon at True Gospel Tabernacle Church. He is survived by 3 children and their spouses, James and Emma Humphrey, Karen and Jasper Mulcahy, all of Nicholasville, Mike and Barbara Humphrey of Garrard Co., 5 Grandchildren: Steve, Angie, Becky, Dustin; 2 Great Grandchildren: Jacob, Levi; 3 Sisters: Beulah Hampton of Lancaster, Alice Newton of Ohio, Sarah Clemons of Ind.; Brother, Jasper of Ohio. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Lucille Cummins and Helen Roe, and 4 brothers, Thomas, Roy, Carl, Lester. Funeral services were held at Betts and West with the Rev. Carl Elmore and the Rev. Paul Huff officiating. Burial followed at Maple Grove Cemetery. Bearers were Ronnie and Steve Humphrey, Danny Mulcahy, Junior Murphy, Brian Keith and Carl Brooks. Contributions may be made to Jessamine Co. Hospice.

George H. Hunt, 83, the widower of Emma Jane Parker Hunt, died Friday. He is survived by two children, George L. Hunt and Donna J. Happach; a sister, Nettie Mae Barnes and a brother, James F. Hunt. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia A. Adams, three brothers and two sisters. Burial was at Camp Nelson National Cemetery.

Mrs Lillian Dean Hunt, 35, wife of Clay Hunt of West Brown Street, died at Good Samaritan Hospital, Lexington, at 12:10 pm today. She was a member of the Nicholasville Baptist Church. She is survived by a daughter, Billie Clay Hunt; four sisters, Mrs Clyde Roberts, Mrs Bronston Blakeman, Mrs Otis Harvey and Mrs Cecil Roberts, all of Nicholasville; four brothers, Harrison and Carl Dean, Nicholasville; Floyd Dean, Ft Thomas, and James Harvey Dean, Richwood, and her mother, Mrs Elva Dean, Nicholasville. The body was brought to the Guyn, Kurtz and Hager funeral home where services will be conducted at 2:30pm Thursday by the Rev. W.F. Evans. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Virgil Norris, James N Norris, Carl E Roberts, J.C. Harvey, Herbert H. Roberts and James Barnes.

HUNTER, WAYNE C.
Former Jessamine County Sheriff Wayne C. Hunter died of a stroke Sunday in Nicholasville. He was 46. Hunter was sheriff from 1969 to 1973, and had been a Jessamine County deputy sheriff before he became sheriff.

HUSTON, ARTHUR CHAMBERS
Arthur Chambers Huston, aged 77 years, died Monday, July 22, 1918, at Lexington, 155 Virginia Avenue, of paralysis. Deceased is survived by three daughters, Mrs. G. W. Smith of Chicago, Illinois; Mrs. J. G. Hargett, of Brannon, Jessamine County and Miss Mattie Huston, of Lexington, and the following sons, James and Charles, of Lexington; William, at Fort Benjamin Harrison; Joe, of Jacksonville, Fla. and Everett, of Detroit, Michigan. The funeral will be conducted by Rev. H. L. Calhoun at Providence Christian Church at Brannon at 3 p.m., Thursday. Dr. Powell, the pastor, will assist in the funeral ceremonies, after which the remains will be in charge of the Nicholasville Masonic lodge with interment in Maple Grove Cemetery, Nicholasville.
